At Shoreline, we use literature-based intervention to expand our children’s ability to understand and use language. We make this fun by recreating the stories we read together! The children love taking the stories they recreated home.
🌟Meet our team!🌟⠀ ⠀ Miriam, M.A., CF-SLP⠀ ⠀ Miriam is our newest SLP at Shoreline! She joined us in June of 2020. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies & Spanish and a Master’s degree in Reading Instruction at Loyola
🌟Meet our team!🌟⠀ ⠀ Miriam, M.A., CF-SLP⠀ ⠀ Miriam is our newest SLP at Shoreline! She joined us in June of 2020. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies & Spanish and a Master’s degree in Reading Instruction at Loyola Marymount University. She later received a post-baccalaureate certificate in Speech-Language Pathology and a Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders from Cal State Los Angeles. She has had extensive training in reading intervention through Orton-Gillingham.⠀ ⠀ 🌍 Enjoys traveling/road tripping ⠀ 🤠 loves country music ⠀ 👩🏻‍🏫 Taught K & and 1st grade for several years before pursuing a career as an SLP ⠀ 🧵 Likes to sew in her free time⠀ 🚗 Hopes to own a classic car someday ⠀ 🗣 Se habla español ⠀ ⠀ Miriam on her favorite part of being an SLP: “I feel very blessed to be able to work alongside such an amazing team here at Shoreline. As SLPs, we get to find creative, motivating and beneficial ways to help children reach their communication goals—but we don’t do it alone. One of the best parts of my job is having the involvement and support of such amazing parents. It takes a village and I’m grateful to be a part of this one!”⠀ ⠀

Today is bittersweet! It’s Elizabeth’s last day at Shoreline and while we’re SO SAD to see her go, we’re also so proud of her!! We’ll be here cheering her on as she earns her masters in Speech-Language Pathology.

We’re always finding ways to make speech & language functional and FUN! Although we can’t celebrate in the office together any time soon, we’ve always loved to celebrate at Shoreline. Birthdays are a great opportunity to target these skills in a FUNctional environment for kids. 🎁Following directions and turn-taking: we play structured games like musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey and have sequenced dance parties. 🎁Asking questions: kids can practice asking their peers, like “how old are you?” and “what did you get for your birthday?” 🎁 Written Language: write birthday cards to practice simple, compound, and complex sentences! Or, encoding and decoding skills. 🎁Speech: for kids working on carrying over speech sounds, natural and exciting environments are a great and challenging opportunity to practice. 🎁Feeding: having a variety of foods encourages tolerance and exploration of new foods.
